The fault in his stars..

Disclaimer: This is not a movie review. It is an out and out a tribute to Sushant Singh Rajput straight from the heart.

On the afternoon of June 14th, while I was sitting in my room planning to bake a cake for my father's birthday, I received a forward on Whatsapp which said actor Sushant Singh Rajput is no more. At first, I thought it was just a silly rumor doing rounds on social media so I searched on Google for the news. I was shocked to read that it was indeed true and I ran into the living room to turn on the television. My parents were sitting there and I told them that this had happened so turn on the damn TV. My mind was not able to process this information and it still hasn't. My heart still doesn't want to believe that he is no more. My heart grieved hearing this news and it still hasn't sunk the information completely. I have no idea why but I got so affected by the news of his demise even though I wasn't his fan per se but his death felt like a personal loss and I am sure many will agree with me. It moved me and the rush of emotions was so strong and overwhelming that I sat on the floor staring at the tv screen half listening to what the police were saying trying to absorb the information as each moment passed. Today, exactly 41 days after his death his last movie released and after watching it my heart sank as it was the last time we all were seeing him act on screen.

To be honest I haven't been his fan so to say. I have watched a few of his movies one was Shudhha Desi Romance, PK, and the other was obviously his career-best M S Dhoni. The way he managed to get into the skin of Dhoni's personality was impeccable. He managed to copy the way Dhoni walked and talked and I became a fan of his work after that. Personally, I did not like Shuddha Desi because of it's writing and other technical aspects, but I remember coming out of the theatre being charmed by his screen presence and his honest to God smile. It lit up the theatre and I was sure that the Patna boy if given proper scripts, was bound to become one of the most celebrated actors in the film industry. There was something raw and organic about him that made him extremely attractive. While reading some articles about him I recently came to know that he did not charge a single penny for his role in PK, therefore, Raju Hirani gave him Rs. 21 as a sign of good luck and gifted him a pile of books.

Sushant Singh had come to Mumbai with a bag full of dreams and he made sure to fulfill those on his merits and not by bootlicking the biggies of the industry. He started his career with a lead role in television in a show named Pavitra Rishta. I was studying in school at that time and one of my friends was such a big fan that she never used to get tired of talking about it. I haven't seen it to date but I am sure Sushant Singh managed to steal everyone's heart right from the very beginning by becoming a household name. It is a belief and up to some extent, it is true that once you become a house-hold name especially after working in television daily soaps it is difficult to break that stereotype and bag versatile roles in big-budget films. Very few actors have managed to do it successfully so and Sushant Singh was one of them. His first film was Kai Po Che which when released received mixed reviews but was trending on Netflix after his death. It is rightly said that people only value you once you leave them.  Honestly, I haven't seen the movie, neither will I because it is too tough to watch him on screen now. I barely managed to watch Dil Bechara. This guy managed on his own terms to succeed in an industry where there is such cut-throat competition that if you are an outsider and give even a single flop you will be disowned. I guess the reason why despite being such a successful actor and giving hits like M S Dhoni the industry never accepted him as one of them because of the fact that he did not need anyone else's blessings except his true fans' to become what he was. That guy was way more intelligent, smart, well-read than all of the industries kids combined but sadly we all realized this after he was gone. I am still not ready to believe the suicide story the media is selling us because a person who won Physics Olympiad, a guy who cracked IIT exam, a guy who started from zero and ended up becoming a top actor, a guy so well versed with his craft, a guy who was so much into astronomy, had bought one of the fanciest and costliest telescopes to gaze at the stars, a guy who read art, history, philosophy and religious texts, spirituality and encouraged everyone to learn Coding, can do such a thing to himself. I mean rarely do we find such people who talk about the importance of Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and science so passionately while working in show business.

Coming to the moving Dil Bechara I do not have words for it. I did not watch it from a moviegoer point of view I just watched it as a farewell to Sushant Singh Rajput. As usual, he managed to steal our hearts. After his death, some photos were being circulated where he had written his bucket list and ticked a few of them. Sadly his buckle list remains unfulfilled. The lives he has touched, the love he is receiving, the way the common man and a few other public figures are voicing for justice is extremely overwhelming.

The audience and the industry were indeed the faults in your stars, we all failed you and there is no way to rectify it, but the fire you have spread in our hearts will not die so easily. People will not shut their mouths and will keep demanding justice because none of us will get closure until justice is served. Sushant Singh Rajput wherever you are, I want you to remember that you will always be loved and will always be remembered as a guy who came from a humble background and paved his way to the top. For us, you will be a reminder of the mistakes we made as an audience and we will make sure not to fail the other Sushants in this world. You have managed to inspire millions of people and are continuing to do so. You were a good soul and wherever you are I pray that you find happiness and peace. Your legacy will continue.. 💗
