The Kashmir Files.

Image
The Kashmir files. Where do I begin? There is so much that I want to say, yet everything is so overwhelming that I can barely process what I am feeling after watching The Kashmir files. There is so much to talk about yet I am unable to find the perfect words for it. This is a humble attempt at trying to describe my reaction after watching the movie rather than a review. Because real history can only be reacted to, it cannot and must not be reviewed. Kindly bear with me for few minutes. I remember being afraid even before entering the cinema hall. It was an afternoon show jam packed with people from almost all the age groups. I had never seen such a rush in a cinema hall post covid. My heart was happy looking at all those people, yet I was scared to what was about to be seen by me on the silver screen. Being an all-time movie buff, I was and am still in love with movies and the silver screen. It has made me laugh, made me cry, but this time I wasn’t ready to what it was ab...

Be the change.

For most of human history, menstruation is a subject that has always been talked about in hushed tones. There has been a stigma and taboo associated with the word "Periods". Girls and boys have not been educated about it. Forget educating them, we also feel ashamed to say the word "Periods". In a country like ours where we have so much unenlightenment about menstrual health, the science behind it, the hygiene that one has to take care of, the taboo attached with the word, it is the need of the hour to begin a positive conversation about it.       A Sanitary pad also known as a sanitary napkin is a thin pad made out of absorbent material that absorbs the menstrual fluid during menstruation. In modern times, one cannot even imagine periods without a sanitary pad or a tampon. However, the first disposable pads hit the market in the year 1896. Before that, using menstrual rags made out of woven fabric or flannel was the norm. Who would have thought tha...

Myntra logo: The unnecessary controversy

Image
Myntra changes its logo after activist calls it 'offensive' towards women!  I came across this piece of news recently on various online news platforms and it just blew my mind. I  mean how idle or pervert one has to be to see something offensive in a logo?   Naaz Patel is a social activist who founded an NGO which goes by the name Avesta Foundation located in Mumbai which provides shelter, food, and medical assistance to destitute senior citizens and marginalized section of the society. This woman filed an FIR against Myntra because apparently, she found the logo to be offensive towards women. When I first read this, I kept wondering how can a logo be offensive to a particular gender? Before starting to criticize her, I wanted to believe that this lady better have a pretty good reason to file an FIR against such a big company. I mean it is difficult to go against a big company head-on. So, I opened Myntra's website and stared at the logo for a good 15 minutes yet I f...

Ordinance on Unlawful Conversion: A factual take

Image
The recent ordinance on unlawful conversion enacted by the Government of Uttar Pradesh has opened a pandora's box. Ever since the implementation of the law, I have been seeing debates about it on primetime shows on various news channels. A bunch of articles has been published on online platforms by various news networks debating as to "how secular is this law?" and whether it will affect inter-faith marriages and the special marriage act. The most common observation while reading these news articles was how these Hindu fanatics and the BJP was responsible for bringing this law into force and how it was violating the basic human right of a person to exercise their right to follow whichever religion they wanted to. I also came across many posts on various social media platforms where lies were being peddled and the youth was being brainwashed via posts and people were simply retweeting and sharing without even putting effort into reading the actual draft of the law and the ...

Happy Daughter's day!

Image
It has been more than a month and I haven't vented out things off my chest for long now. Sometimes I go through this weird phase where I let every thought every emotion build up and then a day comes when I blast like a bomb. Sometimes I need a trigger to write things down and then the thoughts automatically start building up, my hands automatically run on the keyboard and I end up writing a whole write-up in 3-4 hours. Anyway, today is daughter's day apparently and people have been posting videos, photos, quotes, and whatnot. The internet is practically overflowing with such posts today. Many people are posting feminist quotes either to impress people on social media or just to be a part of the crowd. So here I was, lying down on my bed, scrolling through my Whatsapp as if I had no other job in the world and saw a post that read "Teach your daughters how to slap in public and break a leg. Gol roti can wait." and something triggered me to write my thoughts down. So thi...

Periods-not a taboo anymore

Image
Menstruation, periods, chumming. We all have come across these words in our lives but people mostly talk about it in hushed tones as if it were a punishable offense to even mention these words loudly. It is most certainly a taboo to talk about these subject in public and I want to contribute in a small way in eradicating this taboo. A girl experiences periods for the "most part of her life" starting from the age of 10-12 which lasts up to the age of 45-50 on an average (although it may vary depending from person to person) and yet we do not talk about it openly. So let us start a conversation and normalize this because it is a natural process and there is nothing to be ashamed of. I got the courage to speak about it in public domain all thanks to our Prime Minister Modi ji who on this 15th of August spoke about it from the Red Fort, Delhi and the whole nation applauded and welcomed the news about biodegradable sanitary napkins being provided to 5 crore women at Re.1 through 6...

The fault in his stars..

Image
Disclaimer: This is not a movie review. It is an out and out a tribute to Sushant Singh Rajput straight from the heart. On the afternoon of June 14th, while I was sitting in my room planning to bake a cake for my father's birthday, I received a forward on Whatsapp which said actor Sushant Singh Rajput is no more. At first, I thought it was just a silly rumor doing rounds on social media so I searched on Google for the news. I was shocked to read that it was indeed true and I ran into the living room to turn on the television. My parents were sitting there and I told them that this had happened so turn on the damn TV. My mind was not able to process this information and it still hasn't. My heart still doesn't want to believe that he is no more. My heart grieved hearing this news and it still hasn't sunk the information completely. I have no idea why but I got so affected by the news of his demise even though I wasn't his fan per se but his death felt like a personal ...
